Recently a member of team Armec gave an interesting feedback.
During his visit to a sugar factory in Eastern India he could interact with one sugar factory where in the mill has installed a conventional wooden cooling tower for excess condensate cooling application.
The excess condensate flow is only 150 m3/hr but since it is a very high delta T application the fan HP utilised is of a very huge quantity: whopping 45 HP .
Time and again sugar industries have discarded the wooden cooling towers due to numerous reasons. A very few brave ones have even tried to install wooden fan cooling tower for condensate application and realised that the MOC , vibrations, motor-connecting shaft-gear box combination simply fails when there are hot and humid vapours which gets generated when 85 to 90 degree C condensate water is allowed to evaporate.
It is matter of time when the sugar factory under discussion will face a lot of problems which will cost them lakhs of rupees and eventually they may discard the technology which does not suit the application or the engineering economics become to high to live with.
During the internal discussions we realised that the owners of the mill had personally checked , assessed various excess condensate cooling towers of Armec at various sites. The young man ( son ) whom father was grooming had visited various units.
Little background about the whole concept of excess condensate cooling :
Today with god’s kind there are more than 213 Nos Sugar Mills using 356 Nos Jet Towers in Excess Condensate Cooling Application. Armec Jet Cooling Towers working in India and abroad but the whole journey of convincing the sugar mills to go for low operating cost water conservation and water management has been quite difficult.
For three to four sugar seasons numerous sugar mills across India were visited by team Armec under direct involvement of Mr Bhagwan Harani ( inventor of the technology )
Our message to sugar mills was simple. You have more than 70 % water in sugar cane which eventually manifests as excess condensate. Why do you drain it out just because it is too hot. We can cool the same at extremely low initial as well as operating costs.
Water management was an alien subject to most of the factories. Initially the concept was accepted by only few individuals and that also when they realised that project is feasible as it can be done with low cost investment.
BY 2016 water has become a big issue. Zero discharge is new mantra . Today water conservation is not to be pleaded !
Government rules have also become mandatory for sugar industries to reuse the water.
Back to the story :
Father and Son may have some solid observations regarding Jet technology and given the efforts put in by owners it was expected that they will give some feedback to Armec so as to evolve the technology to new level which they might have thought off.
The whole team at sugar mill wanted jet towers as key technical team members had visited , interacted with close friends who were operating Armec’s system at other sugar mills.
With this kind of background the alternative choice
selected by owners ( against the wishes of the technical team ) leave us “ amused “. Something which has been universally accepted as “ can not /has not worked” is put at huge cost and with huge running expenses.
May be to some individual/s old ways are more appealing.
Their simple message : “ We appreciate what you have been successfully doing, but we are traditionalists and will go in very old fashioned way.”
Looks like team Armec has wait for couple of more seasons to once again offer the simple , cost effective solution.
